Profile

José Ignacio is a lawyer graduated with honors from Javeriana University (Bogotá), with graduate studies in Administrative Law from that University and an Adv. LL.M. in Air and Space Law from Leiden University (The Netherlands).

He is an expert in the aviation industry and one of the leading professionals in Air Law on a domestic and regional level. José Ignacio has advised some of the most recognized local and international air carriers with presence in Latin America. Such advise has been focused in Litigation, Regulatory, Contractual and Aircraft Financing matters. He has represented aviation industry clients in complex litigation as well as insurers and reinsurers in matters related with Liability, Insurance and Consumer Law. He has also advised lessors and financiers in aircraft transactions involving Colombia.

His professional experience of over 11 years involves working with important local law firms in Litigation, Air Law and Insurance Law and being part of the legal team of a well-known international aircraft lessor.

José Ignacio has been steadily recognized by Who’s Who Legal (Transport) as one of the lead Aviation Law practitioners in Colombia. He has participated as a speaker in conferences organized by IATA (International Air Transport Association) and ALTA (Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association). He is usual speaker in Aviation Insurance, Aircraft Finance, Aviation Liability and Public Air Law at law firms, public entities and international air carriers located in Asia, Europe and the Americas. He has also participated in the discussion of draft regulation in air transport and has advised important law firms in the United Kingdom and the United States of America in aviation matters.

In respect of academic activity, he has been a part-time lecturer at the law faculties of Javeriana University (Civil Procedural Law, Law of Evidence, Law of Aviation Insurance and Air Law) and Los Andes University (Air Law), a guest lecturer at the International Institute of Air and Space Law (Leiden University) and is the author of relevant articles in his areas of expertise.
